The ISAE 2023 will be held in the city of Bergen, Norway from Monday August 5th to Friday August 9th 2023, at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel at Bryggen. The congress is hosted by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) on behalf of the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE).
ISAE is the leading worldwide organisation for scientists and experts on behaviour and welfare of animals kept by humans, including animals on farms and in aquaculture and companion animals, as well as in zoos and labs: https://www.applied-ethology.org/. We expect around 350 participants at our congress with the main theme «Animal lives worth living»: scientists, PhD students, experts and consultants in ethology (animal behaviour), animal housing, veterinary science and biology.
Scientific sessions will include Prenatal and postnatal effects, Fish behaviour and welfare, Behaviour and genetics, Behaviour and nutrition, Cognition and welfare, Social environment, Environmental enrichment, Human-animal interactions, and Addressing future trends in animal production.
Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Research group Ethology and Animal Housing, is the organiser of this congress, in collaboration with NMBU’s Research group Animal Welfare. The fish session will be organised in collaboration with Institute of Marine Research (Havforskningsinstituttet). In 1999, we successfully organised ISAE’s 33rd International Congress in Lillehammer, Norway.

At the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel the exhibition area will be located in the immediate proximity to the plenary room where the coffee breaks will be held. The conference area is purpose built for conferences combining exhibition and scientific programs. The Radisson Blu Hotel Royal was totally refurbished in 2013, with a new plenary room for 800 persons and 500 square meters of exhibition space.
The Scientific Committee is proud to present a program which will include a selection of world renowned speakers, debates, posters, state of the art mini-symposia, and a social program which highlights Bergen’s historic and architectural heritage and scenic setting.
